It’s confirmed — Betty will be back for more! Prime Video has officially announced the return of the hit series that follows its predecessor, “Yo soy Betty, la fea.”
The new show’s first season reintroduced much of the original cast. It saw them tackle obstacles similar to those of the original show, which ran from 1999 to 2001.
Prime Video sent a press release to Latinidad Collective stating that this isn’t the only milestone the show is celebrating.
Betty is celebrating more than just her return to Prime Video
“Betty la Fea, La Historia Continùa” achieved the highest “global viewership for a Latin American title” for the streamer.
Paulo Koelle, Head of Prime Video Latin America, relays the importance of the show achieving this milestone.
Koelle begins, “The phenomenal success of ‘Betty la fea’ [and] ‘Betty la Fea, The Story Continues’ underscores Prime Video’s commitment to sharing iconic local stories of exceptional quality from the region that deeply resonate with our customers around the world.”
“Prime Video’s strategy in Latin America has been to focus on what truly matters, taking calculated risks to bring our customers all the content they crave in one destination, and we can’t wait to bring Betty back for another season,” he concludes.

Javiera Balmaceda, head of Local Originals for Latin America, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand at Amazon Studios, notes that the production has had its challenges.
“Continuing the story of ‘Betty la Fea’ without the masterful pen of Fernando Gaitán was an enormous challenge. However, Amazon Studios and Estudios RCN united in a determined search for the right voices, and together with both original and new talent, we crafted a story that retains the original DNA while being modern, fresh, and brimming with nostalgia,” said Balmaceda.
She continued, “We are thrilled with the phenomenal success of this first season and eagerly look forward to delighting our audience with an even more exciting second season.”
Season two of “Betty la Fea” will capture much of what made the inaugural season on Prime Video a hit
The follow-up season is said to capture all the unpredictable fun while also exploring each character’s evolution.
The show, produced by Estudios RCN, will also continue to celebrate its cornerstone message of female empowerment. Something that people loved about the original was how it challenged the perception of what it means to be beautiful.
Ana María Orozco as Betty and Jorge Enrique Abello as Armando are set to return. However, despite the major fanfare, some share alternative thoughts about how the central storyline can be molded.
In an Instagram post by Prime Video and Prime Video Latino announcing the show’s renewal, folks shared some things they’d change.

One user commented, “Please don’t focus the plot so much on Mila, we want to see Betty and Armando! And please don’t try to modernize the story so much because it’s losing its essence!”
“I feel it needs more incidental music in several scenes. There are very good scenes of this new season, but without music, they lose the magic compared to the previous one that made the scenes more enjoyable here they reduced a lot the music, and they are only using tango, it would be a plus if they could put the same music of the original show ❤️,” another noted.
Prime Video has yet to announce when season two will air.
