Why Tefi Pessoa Believes Latina Joy is Rooted in Togetherness

Tefi Pessoa is a Latina and extremely proud of it. Pessoa, who is of Colombian and Brazilian descent, loves to celebrate everything that comes with being a Latina. She loves the joy and how Latinos celebrate en comunidad and with their families.

It’s also something that transfers over to her career. Her Latinidad must be embedded into everything she does and all the partnerships she takes on. That’s why when the Baileys team approached her for the launch of their Cinnamon Churros Irish Cream Liqueur, she jumped at the opportunity.

It allowed her to incorporate the fullest expression of how Latinos and Latines love to celebrate.

Pessoa has come to realize the importance of celebrating with your gente because its in those moments that people feel a sense of oneness

The internet personality tells Latinidad Collective, “I think a big part of being Latina is how we celebrate; how we express joy. We come together. I always say that the number one party venue for a Latina is the hallway [or] La Sala, you know what I mean?

“And that’s where the majority of all my memories come from. As a kid and seeing my parents laugh with their friends and interact with their families and me interacting with new family, old family, new cousins, old cousins, [and] my favorite cousins,” she continued.

The social media star explains that when Baileys, a Diageo brand, approached her about partnering for this specific launch, she was filled with excitement and nostalgia. Churros were something she loved to eat as a child growing up in Miami.

She recounted how she’d visit the Miami-Dade County Fair & Exposition in elementary school and would always enjoy all the fried foods — the elephant ears, the pastries, and most importantly, the churros.

Pessoa also admits another thing.

“I’ve never eaten a churro alone in my entire life. It was always like a sweet treat, like something [eaten] to celebrate,” Pessoa admits.

Whether she was with her classmates on a field trip or visiting Miami’s Santa’s Enchanted Forest with her cousin, she was always en comunidad with someone while eating churros.

And for a Latina who loves to be surrounded by her tribe, this was a key aspect for her accepting this partnership.

She told LC, “I just I’m really tapped into [the] nostalgia, you know. And I feel like as you get older, you realize in hindsight just how much those little moments mean.”

“And now not only can I dip a churro, but I can sip a churro with my friends. So I thought that was a good blend of Latinidad, my memories growing up in Miami, and also community,” Pessoa asserts.
