How Eva Mendes’ Dad Inspired Ryan Gosling’s Memorable ‘Cuban Papi’ SNL Skit

It looks like Ryan Gosling is tapping into his “Cuban” roots while hosting NBC’s Saturday Night Live. The “Fall Guys” actor opened the show with a monologue alluding that his time as Ken was coming to a close — only to be interrupted by his co-star and fellow Barbenheimer buddy, Emily Blunt.

But his skit with Kenan Thompson and Miami’s Marcello Hernández seems to have made his partner, Eva Mendes, super proud.

Gosling’s skit is a play on how he has embraced Mendes’ Cuban heritage

The skit starts with the “Barbie” star sandwiched between Thompson and Hernández at a bar, enjoying a typical boy’s night out. In a hilarious twist, the waitress hints at her ability to discern “accents” and inquires about their origins.

Thompson notes that he’s Dominican, Hernandez is Cuban, and Gosling’s humorous background is pointed out.

“He is from Tennessee, but ever since he married a Cuban woman, he different,” Thompson’s character cites.

Gosling adds, “A Cuban wife can change you.”

He playful quips that the way he pronounces words is entirely different due to his being married to a Cuban woman.

“Now, I talk like a Cuban,” his character asserts.

The skit, called “Can’t Tonight,” continues with the men trying to convince Thompson’s character to go to a party where both Mendes and the original dog from the “Beethoven” movie franchise will be.

The actor’s “Cuban Papi” made his “Cuban Mami” proud

Mendes, who never shies away from hyping up her amor, took to social media to share how much she loved the skit.

The actress and entrepreneur states, “Coño! My Cuban Papi made this Cuban Mami so happy with this!!”

“Years of hanging out with my Dad paid off. Gracias to the super talented @marcellohdz for this skit. The way you say ‘Eva Mendes’ 😂! And @kenanthompson always crushing,” she continues.

The post’s caption concludes, “Can’t wait for this trio’s next reunion. ❤️”

Fans of Mendes flocked to her comments to share just how much they loved the sketch. Many noted how they loved the quick nod to Mendes in the skit.

One fan commented, “The Eva Mendes shoutout was the cherry 🍒 on top!!”
