Mixing Passion with Purpose: Tania Oseguera’s Rise in the Tequila Industry

Life rarely unfolds like a neatly scripted book by Gabriel García Márquez or Isabel Allende. Unexpected detours and plot twists often become the defining moments of our journeys. Tania Oseguera’s career path exemplifies this beautifully. 

Though she initially set out to study journalism, fate, a dash of adaptability, and a sprinkle of passion steered her toward the fulfilling and unexpected role she holds today: brand ambassador for Tequila CAZADORES.

She tells Latinidad Collective, “Not only has life taken me to where I wanted to be, but to an even better place. Representing Tequila CAZADORES has given me the opportunity to make friends from all over the world, expanding my horizons and my understanding of different cultures while also sharing with them the culture of Mexico.”

Oseguera found sharing her Mexican culture through her work a natural fit

Growing up in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, Oseguera was no stranger to tequila. It was deeply embedded in her cultural landscape, a testament to the region’s rich heritage and economic vitality. Little did she know that her familiarity with this iconic spirit would later translate into a passionate career.

Oseguera explains, “Growing up, we were very familiar with tequila living in the region where it’s made. It was such an important part of the culture and the economy of the region, but I never imagined I would end up working in the tequila industry.” 

“In fact, I wanted to be a dancer when I was a kid,” she reveals.

If Oseguera had had her way, she would have gone on to be a journalist, which is what she got her degree in. But fate had a grander plan for her future. She notes that studying communications in college would teach her transferable skills she would one day use. Her studies equipped her with skills in public speaking, critical thinking, and cultural understanding. 

“In the tequila industry in particular, I feel a lot of pride as a Mexican woman to be able to share this liquid from my region with the world, especially since the perception of tequila has changed so drastically over the last decade or so.”

While journalism remained her initial career aspiration, the job market realities presented a different path. Embracing flexibility, Oseguera transitioned into promotional work, further honing her communication skills. This paved the way for a life-changing opportunity with Tequila CAZADORES.

To that Mexican-born Latina, joining Tequila CAZADORES felt like a homecoming. The brand’s commitment to 100% agave tequila resonated deeply with her. It was an opportunity to represent her heritage and share this high-quality spirit with the world. 

From promoting the brand across the United States to hosting groups from various international destinations, the mexicana became a bridge between cultures, her fluency in communication and tequila fueling her passion.

She is breaking down barriers by working in a traditionally male-dominated industry

The tequila and spirits industry has historically been perceived as male-dominated, but this perception has changed. Oseguera’s experience at Bacardi, the parent company of Tequila CAZADORES, paints a different picture. 

Bacardi fosters a culture of inclusion where women like her thrive in leadership roles.

This supportive environment empowered her to continue her education, earning an MBA in marketing and becoming a certified Master Tequilier — a testament to her dedication and growth within the industry.

“It’s a great industry for women to work in,” she affirms.

Oseguera encourages women to embrace the industry’s international nature. She wants them to take pride in sharing a product steeped in rich cultural heritage.

Beyond celebrating cultural heritage, the certified Master Tequilier highlights the importance of sustainable practices within the industry. Tequila CAZADORES takes its environmental impact seriously. 

She adds, “We are very proud that we have one of the greenest and most environmentally friendly distilleries in the tequila industry and have implemented several initiatives.”
